ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mr. Charles O.Obakpolor was born on the 1st of January 1968 into a family of highly intelligent and religious people. As a  growing young man with a perculiar talent,  Artistic potentials was encouraged by his parents 

He had most of his Education in Nigeria, his homeland. After Graduating at The Auchi Polytechnic in 1993/94 Session, he worked briefly in Nigeria, held Solo Exhibitions and participated in Group Exhibitions. Amongst them are:

(i)The 1997 Oba Ovonramwhen centiniary Exhibition  at the National Museums in Edo State ,Nigeria.

(ii)A Solo Exhibition in conjunction with the Alliance Francaise in Port-Harcourt that was held at Hotel Presidential.


 Thereafter, he travelled to the Gambia where he had lived since 1999. Though resident in the Gambia,Mr. Charles Obakpolor had often travelled based on his personal love and quest to discover new things and cultures far and wide. According to him ,travelling inpires his artistic concepts. Better put in his words,  "i see new cultures,new things everyday and they exhumes my inexplorable ideas to reality"
 Mr. Charles Obakpolor is a Registered Artist with the National Center For Arts And Culture (N.C.A.C) in the Gambia and had handled various sensitive professional works for the Gambia Government both in the past and present. Amongst some of his professionally executed projects  in the Gambia are:

(i) A cross section Sculpture model on the Stone Circles. A National exhibit at the Expo 2000 in hannover,germany, now a permant exhibit at the Wassu Stone Circles Museums, Wassu

(ii) Illustrative paintings of the distribution and erection of the Stones circles. Also at Wassu mueseums

(iii) Paintings  and Reliefs depicting the Life and torture  of slaves masters and their slaves, also Repository exhibits at the Juffureh Museums,Gambia

(iv) Paintings of various types of masquerades found in the Gambia. Repositories at the National Museums, banjul, Gambia


Mr Charles, in my own word is a rare genius,,well endowed with a highly  flexible intelligence in both African and Decor. Arts. His previous Exhibitons and particularly the one in conjunction with the National Center For Arts And Culture was a clear testimony of his excellence
